Senate Invites Evan Wollen to Highlight the Sponsored Internships and Experiences Program
With the deadline for the Sponsored Internships and Experiences (SIE) Program approaching on March 2, Senate reconvened by inviting special guest Evan Wollen, assistant director of the aforementioned program, to entertain questions and provide a brief overview of the program. Wollen told students to apply to the SIE program, even if they have yet to secure an internship. “Many students who applied to the program without an internship still received funding,” he noted. When some students expressed comments about finding internships, and Wollen responded that there were many reliable resources easily accessible to students. For example, he proposed that students reach out to fellow classmates for details about how they spent their previous summers and the alumni network in order to access companies where former CMC students have worked or currently work. Additionally, he highlighted the internship database, which contains all of the internships completed by CMC students plus many others.
Pro Tempore Thomas Schalke ‘18 spoke on behalf of the elections committee to present the changes made to ASCMC Elections. Much attention has been brought to the lack of women currently in leadership positions on ASCMC; therefore, remedying this disparity is a top priority. Information sessions about the elections will occur on February 11 along with a similar event held at Ath tea during the same week, and all candidates will now have the option to table during the campaign. Finally, Schalke announced the differences with snack speeches for the upcoming election cycle, including an earlier start time, live streamed video, and speech outlines.
Cabinet updates were also listed. Some of the pending initiatives include working to extend library hours, installing drying racks in laundry rooms and senior apartments, and devising a peer mentorship program.
Funding requests for Sanskriti and The Claremont Shades were also funded in-full.
Senate will continue to meet on Mondays at 9 p.m in the Freeberg Forum.
