Art Across the 5C's: Upcoming Events


The start of the spring semester signifies renewal--new classes, new jobs, new activities, and often, new beginnings. Likewise, a fresh array of museum exhibits, concerts, talks, and arts events are coming to fruition. KSPC Open House

Looking for a new creative outlet to share yourself through? Always wanted to host a podcast or have a radio show? Come to KSPC's Open House to learn how to become involved in the station, whether that be becoming a DJ or just reviewing music! The event will feature a pop-up KSPC store and information about upcoming events.

Food and beverages will be provided!

When and Where: January 31, 6-8 p.m.; KSPC Studio, Thatcher Music Building, Pomona Campus

LACMA College Night

After public visiting hours, LACMA will be welcoming college freshmen with free admission to participate in gallery discussions, curated tours, a reception, and more.

Featured exhibits on display will include "Found in Translation: Design in California and Mexico, 1915–1985," "Painted in Mexico, 1700–1790: Pinxit Mexici," "A Universal History of Infamy," "Wu Bin: Ten Views of a Lingbi Stone," and "Richard Prince: Untitled (cowboy)."

Limited space is available for the event, so arrive early. A valid college ID is required for entrance.

A Capella ICCA West Quarterfinal Tournament

The International Championship of Collegiate A Capella will be hosting its quarterfinal tournament at Pomona College. The first- and second-placed groups will advance to the semifinals. Tickets for students are discounted at $15 and are available for purchase here. The acts are as follows:

ArtSmooch Artistic Showcase

This showcase features multidisciplinary poetry, music, visual art, and dance specifically composed for the event by students, faculty, and visiting artists. Students and faculty from Scripps, Pitzer, and Harvey Mudd will also perform on-stage artistic collaborations.

The Motley Student Bake-off

The Motley is looking for students to participate in a bake-off either as a chef or as a taster. Those interested in participating must sign up here by February 8 at 5 p.m. For more information, email Emma at

Improvisation Workshops with Without a Box

Come learn the basics of improvisation in a two-hour workshop with troupe members of Claremont's Without a Box improv group.

When and Where: Every Sunday through April 22, 4-6 p.m.; Dom's Lounge, Pomona College

Beethoven, Lekeu and Brahms Concert 

Violinist Jonathan Wright and pianist Stephan Moss will perform the works of Beethoven, Lekeu, and Brahms together. Wright, a member of Quartet Euphoria, is both an Oxford-educated biologist and biology professor at Pomona College. Moss, who plays both piano and harpsichord, is a frequent chamber music collaborator within the local area.
This is a free event with open seating. Doors will open 30 minutes prior to the start of the concert.

5C Short Film Project

Studio 47 is looking for students who are interested in writing, acting, editing, or cinematography to collaborate in a creative process to develop a 10-minute film. The film is a semester-long project and requires no prior experience or expertise. If you're interested, come to the first meeting to get an overview of the project and sign up to take part in it.
