The Anti-Stress Playlist

Life can get overwhelming sometimes and everyone has their own ways of dealing with it. At CMC, we tend to use the time from Thursday to Sunday to let loose of work and responsibility. However, sometimes during the week you need a little boost to get you to Thursday night. This week I found myself busier than I have been in a long time and in serious need of a chill pill. Unfortunately, said pills haven't quite been invented yet so instead put together a twenty-song playlist to alleviate some of my stress. For me, music has always been the most therapeutic treatment to combat all kinds of negative emotions and complement however it is I happen to be feeling. I hope that this playlist provides a little boost to get you through the studying, writing, job searching and overall more annoying parts of your week.  Highlights of the List:

Shrimps by Homeboi

I stumbled upon this track early last school year and it has since been in heavy rotation for all sorts of situations. It definitely would fall under the general category of electronic music, but is far from the dance tracks that most people associate with the genre. It serves as more of a laid-back composition that you can follow from start to finish. Definitely a great track to work or just relax to.

Crystalized [The xx Cover] by The Gorillaz

If if I had to choose a single track to share from the playlist, this would definitely be the one. You may be familiar with the original version of this song by legendary, alternative duo The xx that is already a masterpiece in itself. However, the drum kit and vocals by Damon Albarn, the genius behind The Gorillaz, take the song to a completely next level.

Realist Alive [Instrumental] by Clams Casino

Clams Casino is one of the most exciting up-and-coming hip-hop producers out. I actually first heard him providing instrumentals for Lil B, but he has most notably worked with A$AP Rocky and Mac Miller. Although he generally works in the realm of hip-hop, Clams incorporates elements of soul, electronic and experimental genres in his sound. If you like this track make sure to check out his most recent track, an epic, soothing remix of Florence & The Machine's Never Let Me Go.

Skinny Love (Das Kapital Rerub) by Bon Iver

Bon Iver's falsetto voice on its own can be great for taking a deep breath and a step back. Das Kapital's take on the already amazing track will undoubtedly bring a smile to your face. It just has such a positive feel that it can bring you up from just about anything. If you like this track or are just a Bon Iver fan in general, give a listen to his latest track with the Flaming Lips (you'll probably also enjoy the Fleet Foxes, Sigur Ros and Tallest Man on Earth tracks in the playlist).

She Dgaf by The Internet

The Internet consists of two members of the infamous Odd Future squad, DJ and singer Syd tha Kid (pictured on the left) and producer Matt Martians. The Internet, however, has a sort of post-Pharrell, soul-influenced sound with smooth vocals provided by Syd. This song proves strangely calming and the misplaced, unconventional lyrics work surprisingly well.  You can buy their first album over at iTunes.

Collapsing Cities (Jakwob Remix) by Get Cape Wear Cape Fly

You might recognize Jakwob from his popular remix of Ellie Goulding's Starry Eyed and be wondering how a dubstep producer can make it onto a supposedly settling collection of songs. Jakwob actually does a great incorporating drum and bass and dubstep sounds, while maintaining a chill vibe on this track. I'm not sure if I'm the only one, but I love working to Jakwob.

Chill....
