Pomona-Pitzer Football falls to Cal Lutheran
Post Game Coverage by Jenny Phillips The 12th ranked (D3football.com) Cal Lutheran Kingsmen slaughtered the Pomona-Pitzer Sagehens 62-7 last night. The Sagehens showed a lot of heart throughout the game but it was not enough to beat an impressive Cal Lu squad with several nationally recognized players. Cal Lu’s offense controlled the game the entire first half, scoring 7 touchdowns (5 rushing) and shutting Pomona-Pitzer out. The Kingsmen defense adjusted their normal formation to stop Sagehens star running back, Luke Sweeney (PO ’13), who was featured in an L.A. Times article this week. Sweeney, who was missing several key blockers due to injuries, was held to 13 net yards in the first half.
In the second half, Cal Lu took out most of their starters, allowing their younger players to get some game experience. The Kingsmen continued to have control over the game, allowed Pomona-Pitzer to score a touchdown. The Sagehens’ young defense defended the Kingsmen pass game well, but still struggled to stop the run. Cal Lu finished the game with 372 rushing yards, while Pomona-Pitzer only had 45. With a stacked roster, Cal Lu’s offense proved to be unstoppable and defense impenetrable.
Next week the Sagehens go on the road to take on a 1-5 Whittier (0-3 SCIAC) and will try to get their first win on the season. Pre-Game Coverage
