Rove Visit on Monday

September 13, 2008

by The Forum

On Monday, Karl Rove, political analyst and former Deputy Chief of Staff to President George W. Bush, will visit CMC.  He will attend a luncheon in Newport Beach before coming to the Marian Miner Cook Athenaeum for a dinner talk the same night. The luncheon at noon will take place at the Fairmont Newport Beach Hotel in Newport Beach, CA.  The luncheon is open to members of Res Publica Society and guests-- over 400 distinguished alumni, students, faculty, and staff.

The dinner reservations went online at around 8 AM last Monday (after a website error at midnight that was supposed to open the website to reservations), but seats at the dinner filled up within minutes.  By 9 AM, reservations for seats at the talk after the dinner were also booked.

Rove, a controversial public figure, may attract protesters on Monday, so the Athenaeum staff is prepared.  In addition to campus security officers and Athenaeum security, the Claremont Police Department will send officers to secure the area.  It is unclear if other security will be present.  The Athenaeum will also not serve tea on Monday due to the visit.
