I guess I must be the certain downer that this article is referring to. And I presume, being one of a handful of conservatives on campus, that I’m a member of that so-described “cabal.” Better to be in the cabal, than a member of the herd, I suppose.

At least I go to Pitzer for other reasons than, in Wyatt Mackenzie’s words, “getting sandwiches and getting high.”

But in all seriousness, Wyatt’s point about science for non-majors is well understood. Reportedly, the college is dialing down its science requirements now that Keck is at capacity. Expect to see more goofy science courses.

In all seriousness, the headline on this article is odd and easy to misread. Wyatt is clearly trying to say that the course “Great Ideas in Science” is as liberal arts as you can get (“liberal arts as hell”).

But it comes out looking like he’s saying that the course “Great Ideas in Science” is an example of liberal arts courses in hell. “liberal arts — as HELL.”

I was expecting to read an article that disapproved of the course.
