ASCMC Presents

LMFAO

____________________________

The Associated Students of Claremont McKenna College will host LMFAO on April 2, the Forum can report.

LMFAO, a self-described tech-hop group of two DJ-rappers, is well known for hits such as “Shots”, “I’m In Miami Bitch”, “Party Rock Anthem” and “La La La”, and for one of its members slapping Mitt Romney in the hair.

Their first album, Party Rock, was nominated for Best Electronic/Dance Album at the Grammy Awards in 2010.

“I guess if CMC had a soundtrack,” commented one bitter Pomona sophomore, “it would be Party Rock.”

Tammy Phan noted the group’s reputation for putting on a great concert as key to ASCMC’s decision-making.

“They’re a ton of fun, and will definitely bring the party to Claremont,” Phan said.

The concert is scheduled to be held in Big Bridges Auditorium, coordinated in conjunction with the Student Activities Office. ASCMC has reserved 600 seats for CMC students, subsidized down to $20 a seat.

CMCers can buy their tickets on March 1 at 8:00 PM in McKenna Auditorium. CMC IDs will be checked. Students purchasing can pick up two tickets if holding two CMC IDs.

Tickets for students at the other Claremont Colleges will be $25, and members of the public can buy tickets at Ticketmaster on March 7 for $30.

  1. why in bridges where no one can dance? switch it to parents field. people will still pay.

    • Seriously. LMFAO is far from a “sit in a seat on rock out” type group. Throw it on parents. No one will care that its cold out, they’ll hydrate for it.

      • If I remember correctly, I don’t think anyone sat in their seats and calmly watched BOB and Lupe last year, so I wouldn’t worry about it.

Or at least the thousands of dollars in damages ASCMC quietly paid to Bridges thinks so.

This show will be hilarious either way.

    • I’m going to assume that all of you requesting a change of venue are freshmen, because you’ve indicated that you neither saw Ludacris or Lupe nor did you hear any of the great reviews from friends about their awesome concerts in Bridges. I’m going to also assume that as freshmen, you weren’t here for E-40 and did not hear the stories of Mickey Avalon getting shut down quickly.

Bridges is an awesome venue for an enormous range of events and LMFAO falls well within that range. On Parents, there’s the problem of people choosing not to pay because they’re already getting a free concert from their dorms. The neighbors also get a free concert, which typically leads to noise complaints from the police and our expensive guests going home early. Plus, Parents involves the added expense of setting up a stage and lighting and sound equipment, building a tent, and providing security and restrooms around the tent, which will almost certainly cost as much or more than renting out Bridges for a night.

      • Bridges costs $25,000 a night. We can have an incredible outdoor set-up for half of that. Ludacris and Lupe were fun, but would have been exponentially more fun without seats. People complain about Bridges every year, and not just freshman. There are multiple venues on the 5Cs that would eliminate your problems with free riders and noise complaints; for example, Pomona’s outdoor Greek Theater would be sick, is outdoors, and Pomona’s huge undeveloped land extends for acres after it.

        • I think the point you’re missing is that the concert will get shut down by the police if it’s outdoors due to noise complaints, and there’s no super expensive, soundproof tent that will get ASCMC out of that one, especially when LMFAO is forced to stop performing after their first song. If Pomona’s Smiley 80’s party was shut down last year because of noise complaints and it was downstairs under their gym, then people will definitely hear and shut down LMFAO.

Yeah, White Party was in a tent last year and so was Mike Posner, but acts like LMFAO have certain volume requirements that must be met in their contract or they won’t perform. And, they are nuts live and probably wouldn’t go for the relatively “low” volume of tents. There was that “concert,” (if you could call it that) on Parents Field last year, but it had to end by like 9 or 10 PM. Plus, how do you suppose the damage on Parents Field is fixed in time for the next Cougs game?

I’ve seen them live and they are crazy, so get over the venue and get ready to rock out.

  2. It’s hotter in the auditorium than parents field, so wouldn’t people want to be more hydrated for that?

    • @ Pitzer Sammy

No. I was referring to one’s beer blanket, which can ward off possible cold april air, but would get unbearable in bridges.

  3. Please change the venue. Nobody wants to sit in their seat in bridges like its a classical music concert while LMFAO plays shots.

    • On behalf of student government, I’d like to apologize that Justin Bieber was unavailable that weekend due to his world tour and we weren’t able to make your wishes come true.

Lots of us do like LMFAO and whether or not you know their music, they’re renowned for producing exceptionally energetic and fun concerts. Find something else to do for those 3 hours. I’m sure ASCMC will have no trouble filling up Bridges without you.

  4. Is this a press release, or a news report? Our “intrepid reporter” who is also a member of the ASCMC exec board, must have gotten a great “scoop” so that “The Forum can report” this article. Next thing we know, Wilner and Peaslee will team up on a breaking story that ASCMC will be releasing a yearbook called Ayer.

  5. Put it on the field outside bridges. Its a much bigger venue and way more appropriate for the group.

    • I agree, LMFAO needs an environment in which people can actually party. If they actually hold this concert in bridges it will be too hot, too crowded, and a disappointment. Not only will it be a waste of a good act, but CMC will have to pay to repair all the damages done to bridges. Unless they find a way to take all the chairs out of bridges this show will be a fail…I say they move it outside.

  6. LMFAO really isn’t any bigger than the gym class heroes. and the gym class heroes came for a sunday night that nobody went to. this is not a big deal. disappointing.

  8. another terrible event thanks ascmc great work, well at least their is still pirate party….

  9. CMC continues to disappoint this year. The parties have at least been better with N2ition back though.

    • Loose Cannon > N2ition all day, every day. When N2ition learns to beatmatch we can discuss this further.

    • Good thing N2ition’s back. And not a minute too soon. He’s exactly what our parties have been missing. Loose Cannon’s good and AC (forgot his DJ name) is cool if you’re into dub step, but N2ition is in a league of his own at the 5Cs.

LMFAO is baller and all, but here’s my fantasy: Nicki Minaj and DJ N2ition performing together. How sick would that be? For those of you struggling to comprehend what that level of awesomeness would sound like (i.e. anyone who’s been living in a cave lately), go to YouTube and watch “Monster”. That song will blow your mind.

    • What parties are you talking about? The only DJ N2ition party I’ve been to was in Fawcett lounge. The music kept stopping, and there were more people outside than inside (that was not because the inside was packed; you could easily move around in there).

BTW, I’ve seen Loose Cannon with a fog machine this semester…
