Beth Ricca Leaves CMC

Beth Ricca, Associate Director of Career Services and Director of Internships, has left Claremont McKenna. Rumors about Ricca’s desire to leave CMC have long circulated campus and Diana Seder, Director of Career Services, confirmed that Ricca has “has accepted a position with the Ramapo School in New Jersey” after “ looking to move back to her home state for some time.”

Career Services is currently searching for a replacement and has hired on an interim Assistant Director, Jason Jeffrey, to fill her position. Jeffrey, who will take over the sponsored internship program, starts at CMC on January 11.

After Dean Huang’s interview with (and ultimate decision to decline an offer from) Amherst earlier this semester, not to mention his replacement as Dean of Students by Mary Spellman, Beth Ricca’s departure rounds out something of a tumultuous semester for the administration.

Nice move CMC. Keep dean Huang and get rid
of beth ricca. CMC improved 50 percent this month.

Beth ricca was probably the most incompetent administrator in the history of cmc and for no apparent reason they had given her power over 100s of students summer plans. Let summer awesomeness begin free from the shackles of beth ricca!

I don't think that beth was necessarily incompetent at all. I think she was a hardass. And given that we have the broadest and most diverse abroad program on the planet, I don't think that's a bad thing. Her job was to keep us in check. We hate getting kept in check. But that doesn't mean that she didn't know how to do her job. In fact, I would argue the opposite. She knew exactly how to do her job; that's why we didn't like her.

Joshua, I think you're confused... Beth Ricca wasn't the director of Study Abroad or Off Campus Study... She was the Associate Director of Career Services and Director of Internships.

That's true, but from my understanding she mostly gave people grief about getting funding to go abroad. Perhaps I'm mistaken, but most everyone I know who found fault with her found it in the study abroad department of her job description. Remember also that she resided in Career Services when it was launched into second best in the country (now, I'm told, we're seventh; not too shabby).

Beth Ricca once tried to deny me a grant to work abroad because "we had not discussed" the issue of traveling to countries currently on the state department list. I told her we had, many times, over email. She began to get furious at the suggestion that I was calling her a liar, and she began searching for my file. She found it under a Collins cookie, which had grease stained the front page. Stapled to the back were the emails between me, her, and my sponsor. Good riddance to mean incompetence.
