The Student Life: August and Historic? Or just August?

Read that tag line: “Published By The Associated Students of Pomona College Since 1889.” But it seems that ASPC wasn’t around in 1889… according to tax records, ASPC was founded in 1938. So just how old is the “oldest college newspaper in Southern California”?

We have issues in our office going back to Sept. 17, 1924. In this issue, it says “Published Tri-Weekly by The Associated Students of Pomona College.” In light of this, the claim that ASPC was founded in 1938 seems dubious.

Honnold-Mudd archives the issues (first issue archived-?) , so that might be a good starting point if you’re interested in figuring it out how old TSL actually is.
