Wait! This is that Pomona guy who keeps calling all my comics lame! Don’t you have some literary theory to criticize somewhere else?

“Wait! This is that Pomona guy who keeps calling all my comics lame! Don’t you have some literary theory to criticize somewhere else?”

    - You’re still trying too hard.

And yes, this is the same guy, who is not a lit major but a pre-med candidate. I’d appreciate it if you didn’t abuse your ability to read IP addresses to announce my campus affiliation. Perhaps you learnt a thing or two from Chuck.

    “literary theory”

Tina, come on now, don’t bash us, Lit majors. If you must know, many notable philosophers and politicians were (and continue to be) inspired by literature. Take Mill for instance– without Wordsworth, he would have remained in depression and we would never learn of Utilitarianism (perhaps for the best, actually). Ronald Reagan’s favorite book as a child had a profound effect on him as well.

Literature is an essential element of theirs and our lives, and its analysis should be a paramount concern for the academy. It’s often trivialized, but unfortunately so.

Props to lit majors and props to Tina.

    • Juliet Archer

I agree with Carl. And I wish there were more comics in general.

    Tina,

Please don’t reveal my IP-Location again. And try to be funny next time. And don’t criticize lit majors. As a wannabe comedian, your profession is full of loonies and you’re one of them.

    CJohnson,

I hate you — as most do — for other reasons, but I wasn’t implying you were a part of this. And you may be offensive, but you’re still funny. Hey, maybe Tina’s the new Charles Johnson!!

    • http://claremontconservative.com Charles C. Johnson

Hate is the path to the dark side, padawan. If you want to come out of your trollness and have a beer, you know where to find me.

    1) I love the comics, but CMC is Gondor, not Rohan. This comic is really good though.

    2) The IP thing is just weird. Its one thing to check comments and IPs behinds closed doors. I disagree with it but it happens and its always nice to see if you have a “fan”. Its quite another to reveal someone and to track them by college. Its things like that which make me not want to post/submit articles on the forum even though I love the concept, the authors, and the articles.

@ lame: Stop being such a prick. What do you gain exactly from anonymously trashing people online?

@ Tina: I think your comics are great.

    • @brendan

Anonymous posting allows one to present controversial viewpoints without being ostracized. Case in point, the UTL review. I talked to a few UTLers who wanted that person’s blood. They were even accusing people of writing it, based simply on their affiliation with UTL the last four years. While the review was overly harsh, the reviewer did not deserve to be hung. Tyranny of the majority at its worst. At a school this small where everything is so intertwined, social pressure silences a lot of opinion.

      • Brendan

I don’t have a problem with people presenting controversial viewpoints. I have a problem with people being pricks about it. So let’s not confuse the issue– all I’m arguing is that people should treat each other civilly. You’re free to disagree.

      • Jillian

        I agree with Brendan.

When I see an article in the humor section, it ought to make me laugh. Stagafling and Carl Peaslee do, Tina fails miserably. It might be negative, but Tina brings the Forum’s overall quality down.

It’s just some friendly advice: If you want humor, go with Carl Peaslee or Josh Siegel. Dump Tina.

    • http://www.thestaghen.com Carl Peaslee

Oh yeah? Thanks. Well, here is a funny headline just for you then:

      You’re a d-bag.

And that one isn’t even fake news. I’ll be here all week.

      • Daniel

        amen to that

I guess I still don’t understand why anonymity gives license for abject rudeness and/or d-bagness…

You’re from Pomona… this is CMC forum… go to your own damn school’s website and stop hating on Tina.

    Lame:

I second Brendan and Jillian! Would you have been so rude if you had signed of as whatever your name is? I do not think so. And if you would have, seriously try pulling that of outside the 5Cs. (think strategically buddy, do not be a prick about it, AND DO NOT ATTACK Tina, personally either). I’m not asking you to be overly PC (we aren’t exactly known for that at CMC, and proud of it). You have every right to offer your critic, in fact it is welcome, but please make it constructive.

It saddens me and a lot of other people that in the last year, we have seen evidence to suggest we are unable to handle anonymity with class (5C confessions for example, great idea, few people screw it up for the rest). Lame has a point about the importance of anonymity, and perhaps checking IP addresses was a little much, but seriously there are 1500+ Pomona students, I think his/her identity is safe.

Can we consider this debacle over? Good luck on finals!

    Thanks Shamil.

Alright everyone: Tina, I’m sorry if I was rude and if my comments came across as mean-spirited, which in hindsight they probably were. Please don’t take this as a personal attack because I don’t even know you!

That said, I still don’t find your cartoons very funny and prefer the Forum’s (or even TSL’s) satirical pieces. Also, my initial comment wasn’t ‘attacking’ you in any way. I sarcastically asked if this was supposed to be funny; to which you replied, “This is that Pomona guy who keeps calling all my comics lame! Don’t you have some literary theory to criticize somewhere else?” This sparked of some of the ugliness from my side. I hope the nice and courageous commenters on this post see my point.

PS: My name isn’t really lame ;)
